Last Day in Taipei

Breakfast on the Last Day

It was the final day, and since our flight was in the afternoon,

we did not have any proper plans.

As usual, we got up and went for breakfast.

Buying Chicken Floss

After breakfast, I went to buy chicken floss for a colleague.

She said her son really likes it, and it can be eaten straight away.

From Exit 1 of Shilin Station, turn right and walk along the road. You will see it on the right.

After buying it, I went back to the hotel to drop it off and wait for my friends.

Buying Wax Apples for a Friend

Suddenly, a friend living in Taiwan asked me to help buy wax apples from Guo-Zi-Li Fruit Stand.

I walked there from Shin Kong Mitsukoshi at Taipei Main Station,

following Google Maps along the way.

When I saw the paifang of the Taiwan Provincial City God Temple, I went inside.

Walk along the right side of the road. When you see the Taiwan Provincial City God Temple on the left,

walk a little further and you will see a very dark alley on the right.

Go inside and you will find two rows of fruit stalls.

After buying them, the weather was honestly too hot, so I went into Shin Kong Mitsukoshi to cool down.

Taiwanese Self-Serve Food

After meeting up with my friends, we went for Taiwanese self-serve food.

My friend’s Taiwanese wife said Taiwanese people would not eat this if they had a choice.

But I think these places, just like lu rou fan, are the soul of Taiwanese food.

They are like Hong Kong’s two-dish rice, cha chaan teng and bing sutt.

Back then, I relied on them to fill my stomach.

But my friend in Taiwan said that once it is put into a lunchbox, it becomes a bento.

Never mind. As long as I ate, that was enough.

My friend and his wife went to eat dumplings instead.

Heading to Taoyuan Airport

After that, everyone followed the signs at Taipei Main Station towards the Airport MRT.

One Last Drink at the Airport

After passing through airport checks, we still had some time left,

so we sat down at a beef noodle restaurant and drank beer.

The worst part was that I forgot to take a photo of the beer.

It was a blue can, made in Taiwan.

It is only sold at the airport. That can of beer was really fragrant and really good.

Back to Hong Kong

At the very end,

it was finally time to return to Hong Kong.

Afterword

This trip was really interesting. Originally, all we knew was that we were going to Taipei for the adult expo on July 5.

In the end, everyone’s flights, accommodation and arrival times were different, and we slowly joined up only after arriving.

On the other side, I had a friend living in Taiwan taking me around to eat and walk everywhere. The whole trip turned into half adult expo, half eating and drinking with friends.

It was only a few short days, but it felt like we did a lot of different things.

There was the adult expo I had looked forward to for so many years, places I visited for the first time, and time spent eating, drinking and chatting together.

When I finally returned to Hong Kong, this trip ended up feeling more special than I had expected.

If I get another chance later, I think I would want to go again.

But next time, I probably will not pack the schedule so tightly again, haha.
