Leaving the Hotel
We checked out at 10:00 a.m. and left our luggage at the hotel.
Beppu Park
We walked through Beppu Station and bought our JR tickets back to Hakata along the way.
From the west exit, continue straight along the same road. When the surroundings become full of flowers, plants and trees, look for an entrance to the park.

The park was genuinely quite large, so we decided to enter from the right and follow the path.
The slope was gentle enough that older visitors could manage it slowly.
There were not many flowers during this month. The flower-filled scenes shown by other visitors on Google Maps were clearly taken at another time of year, although we still found a few.

Chrysanthemums covered the ground.

Instead of cutting the branch, a wooden frame had been built to support it.

This tree had grown into a beautiful shape.

There were many crows in the park. They were clever enough to fly away as soon as I raised my phone for a photo.
There was a door standing in the middle of the park. My first thought was Doraemon’s Anywhere Door.

These trees had unusual patterns in their bark.

More views around the garden:

After seeing the park, we returned to Beppu Station for lunch.
We had not noticed this cute little building on the way there, but saw it while leaving.

Lunch
We chose one of the restaurants in the food street for udon. Each restaurant served something different, so there was no need to compare two places offering the same menu.
Inside, we ordered from a machine before finding seats.
I ordered udon with a rice ball because I was worried the noodles would not be filling enough.

Drinks were free, and I chose a cup of iced green tea.
We returned to the hotel immediately after eating to collect our luggage.
Returning to Hakata
We arrived just in time for the JR train.
We took Sonic 32. Honestly, it swayed more than the Yufu 3 we had taken to Yufuin.
After reaching Hakata, we had some spare time and looked for a locker.
There were many lockers in long rows. They were diagonally behind the information centre, next to and opposite FamilyMart.

If those are full, try the Airport Line level. There are more lockers along the corridor before the ticket gates.
We needed to visit a nearby shopping centre to buy something for somebody.
The station complex was enormous. We initially found an inexpensive sushi restaurant on the same floor, but lost it again while walking around.
After buying some women’s products at Hakata Hankyu, we followed the directions to the M3 floor.
The lift does not reach that floor, so you need to use the escalator.
We tried to find the original sushi restaurant again but could not locate it.
Instead, we went down to the basement food street, ate at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant and then left for the airport.
Fukuoka Airport
The journey to the airport is simply the reverse of the route from the airport to Hakata Station.
Leave from the same subway station and take the free shuttle bus from the same bus stop.
When we reached the airport, our trip finally came to an end.
