Hong Kong General Post Office
A visit record before the General Post Office demolition, covering the Postal Gallery, historic exhibits and stamp mural.
Introduction
The fourth-generation General Post Office at Connaught Place in Central will be demolished in mid-2027 as part of the Central Yards development on the Central harbourfront. Postal services at this site have already moved earlier to the new headquarters in Kowloon Bay. After demolition, some postal facilities will be reprovisioned on the original site, and the area will be developed into a new landmark.
I wanted to visit before it is demolished, just to see what the current General Post Office looks like.
If you want to keep a memory of the fourth-generation Hong Kong General Post Office, you can still go inside in 2026 to visit the Postal Gallery and some of the historical exhibits.
Since demolition is expected to start in mid-2027, if you are interested in Hong Kong historic buildings, stamp-collecting culture, or local postal development, it is worth seeing once before it disappears.

On Sundays, only the G/F is open, so there is no way to visit the upper floors.
Getting There
I came out of Exit B2 at Hong Kong Station. The building in front was already the General Post Office.
Cross the road, turn right, and pass the newspaper stall.
Keep walking along the same road, and the entrance will be on your left.
Inside
As soon as I walked in, a large Victoria Harbour mural came into view.

Stamp Exhibition
The Postal Gallery is on the right.
Walking further in, you will see some old historical items on display.

The glass cabinets are filled with postal history from the past.
On the other side, there are stamps you can press yourself.
Other Notes
When I left, I took the tram and was lucky enough to get an old-style tram. It was full of nostalgic atmosphere.
