York Design Hotel Stay Review
A stay at York Design Hotel near Taipei Main Station, covering the double room, shared facilities, laundry, transport and cleanliness.
Basic Information
The hotel is very close to Taipei Main Station.
It is basically just across the road from the station, next to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi.
I checked in at around 7 or 8 p.m.
Room
There was a damp smell when I first entered the room.

The room was quite small and might feel cramped for two people.

Still, it had everything you needed despite its small size.
There was even an electric kettle.

Fourth-Floor Lobby and Shared Facilities
The lobby is on the fourth floor. Reception is right in front of you when the lift doors open.
Turn around and you will find a water dispenser and a shared toilet.
B1 Backpackers’ Common Area
Besides the fourth floor, the hotel also has a basement level.
To reach B1, you need to use the lift on the left and tap your key card on the grey keypad before pressing the button.
The basement is specifically for backpackers.
There is a large common area with a water dispenser and a microwave.

Walk down this corridor and you will find the men’s and women’s toilets.

The men’s toilet has a shared shower room.

There are also washing machines and dryers.

The Wi-Fi network has the same name there as well.
Getting There
The hotel also offers an airport transfer service, but there is a charge.
Taking the MRT is cheaper.
Walking at Street Level from Taipei Main Station
If you are walking from Taipei Main Station at street level, head right after leaving the main entrance.

Cross the road here.

Turn left after crossing.

After passing Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, you will see Caesar Park Hotel Taipei.

Continue straight along the road beneath it.

You will need to cross the road.
If you see this chain restaurant on your right,

York Design Hotel will be on your left a few steps ahead.

Cosmed is directly opposite. You can even see it reflected in the photo.
Through the Underground Mall
As it was summer at the time, you could also get there through the underground mall.
You can use exits M3, M4 or M5, following the station signs for Shin Kong Mitsukoshi.
Price and Cleanliness
It was quite expensive when I booked. At the time, it was only slightly cheaper than Caesar Park Hotel Taipei.
If my budget were more flexible, I might consider Caesar Park Hotel Taipei instead.
I also found hair on both towels and on the duvet.
After I told the staff, they replaced the towels straight away.
Although I did see cleaning staff at work, the experience still lowered my rating for cleanliness.
