Yufuin Besso Shikisai Hotel
A quiet stay in Yufuin with a spacious room, onsen access, Japanese breakfast and dinner, and practical check-in notes.
Part of: Japan Kyushu 2026
Room
We booked a room with one single bed and one queen bed.
The room was spacious, clean, and tidy.
It had a balcony with a rack for drying clothes, as well as access to the onsen.
The Wi-Fi was disappointing and very slow.
Wooden geta sandals were provided for walking to the onsen.

Complimentary water and rice crackers were provided. The crackers were particularly good.

We also found a beautiful butterfly in the corridor outside our room.

Check-In
The hotel provides information sheets during check-in.

If your booking includes breakfast and dinner, the staff will ask you to choose a time slot for each meal. There are only two available time slots for breakfast and two for dinner.
You receive a physical room key. The staff ask you to leave it at reception whenever you go out.
At the restaurant, they ask for your room number. During dinner, the staff checked the number on our room key before registering us.
The hotel charged an onsen tax of 250 yen per person at check-in.
Yukata are available beside reception.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the ground-floor lobby.
There was a breakfast menu, but unfortunately I forgot to take a photo.
Some dishes were already on the table when we arrived. Once we were seated, the staff lit the burner for the hot dishes.

Remember that the egg is raw. I thought it was an onsen egg and was caught by surprise.
Juice, milk, coffee, and water are available as free refills.
It is worth bringing a water bottle so you can fill it before leaving.
Dinner
This was the dinner menu.

Dinner includes a choice of one drink, with options such as tea and alcohol.
There is also a separate drinks menu. We did not order anything extra, so I am not sure whether those drinks carry an additional charge.
Here are some photos from dinner.

Smoking Area
From the corridor beside reception, go through the door on the right to reach the smoking area.
Facilities
This is the hotel car park.

Overall Stay
The hotel was comfortable and the surroundings were quiet.
Getting in and out was slightly inconvenient, so it may be a better choice for travellers with a car.
It was very hot that day, so we did not use the onsen.
The bathroom layout worked well for sharing. The washbasin was in the centre, with a toilet behind a door on the right and the bathroom behind another door on the left.
Apart from the slow Wi-Fi, we had no major problems with the stay.
The main entrance is locked overnight. We tried to leave at around five or six in the morning to visit Lake Kinrin and found the door locked. Ask the staff in advance if you plan to leave early.
Check-Out
Checkout is at 11:00 a.m.
If you have booked the hotel shuttle, wait at the table and chairs outside the lobby after checking out.
